divrei Torah

“Not by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”

A D’var Torah are the thoughts/essays/discussions that arise in relation to the weekly Torah portion (or ‘parsha’).  The Jewish people read one section of the Torah each week during services, mainly during Shabbat services, but also during Monday and Thursday morning services. In its entirety, the Torah is read publicly over the course of one year. The Torah is divided into 54 parshot.

Below I have each Torah portion listed for your convenience. I don’t claim to be an expert on the Torah, or on each parsha, but on occasion, usually when my life feels like is has veered off –track, I find myself coming to the Torah portion, reading between the lines, looking for some inspiration to look beyond myself, at a bigger picture and into history. It doesn’t always work, but sometimes they even inspire some of my recipes. Beneath the links to Torah, I have linked back to recipes that contain personal Divrei Torah, too.
